How to use posters in your Marketing Mix
Posters are an often underestimated means of advertising. While they may not be as bolshy as a billboard or as quick to produce as an online ad, they have an enduring appeal that appeals to potential clients and customers of all kinds. While a billboard can be viewed by potentially hundreds of people at the same time, a poster may only be viewed by a handful, but that connection is a more personal one. The viewer isn’t at a distance, they are usually roughly a foot to 6 feet away and reading your poster in much greater detail.
Times the number of passers by, by a thousand (depending on where you place your ad), and suddenly you have a thousand viewers who have spent more time engaging with you and less time simply passively being advertised to. Your message will stick in the brains of those passers by and they’ll remember you for all the right reasons.
So where do posters fit into your marketing mix and how do you make sure that your poster gets noticed? Here’s our top tips for perfect poster placement
Perfect poster placement
Think about quantity
Now this is the obvious one. You’ll want to make sure that as many people see your posters as possible. You only have to look at all of the carefully placed posters on the London Underground to know that posters still play a key role in driving sales and leads for your brand, event, or product.
Think about quality
While ensuring as many people see your posters as possible is an obvious key advantage, if you are offering something that’s a little bespoke or niche, then you may want to consider in a little more detail the areas where you might find your target audience.
Be relevant
If your advertising your bar or pub it would make sense to put posters up in an area where people are drinking and enjoying themselves. Similarly, say you have a product that would appeal to fitness fanatics, you’ll want to see if you can drum up a relationship with gyms and leisure centres and get yourself some prime advertising spots.
Your Marketing Mix
You’ll want to not only think about how best to design your posters and get them in front of exactly the right people, but also how they fit into your whole marketing mix. Here’s a few of our top tips for marketing with posters;
Social Media
Posters are great for pairing up with social media campaigns. Like social media, your poster campaign can be a bit more lighthearted than other means of advertising, and, as neither social media or your posters necessarily have to cost the earth, there’s room to experiment and try out different approaches if you want to. Both social media and poster campaigns also have a grass roots feel to them so you can really build up a bit of a cult following for your brand.
Events
Posters are a fantastic way to tell the world about a must attend event in the local area. Combining poster printing with your other marketing channels can really make a difference to your brand’s overall exposure. Targeting a local audience via Adwords or social media and following this up with real physical posters in their neighbourhood will really drive home that this event is happening and that they need to be there.
Sales or Discounts
Again this can work very well with local campaigns. If you combine your online advertising with posters near your physical stores then it is possible to not only draw your audience’s attention to the sale, but guide them in the right direction when they are out and about in the local area.
